Troubleshooting Guide
Open-ESS does not behave very
differently from Open-E DSSv7, other than setup of the
main storage array.
Here are some notes to help you
handle issues that might arrive.
DSSv7 Logs:
Open-E logs are accessible from the Open-E web
management interface. Select "Status" "Hardware"
and scroll down to "Logs". You can download all
logs as a zip archive, or you can view individual logs.
Viewing Logs:
The logs are text files in Unix text format. This
means that line endings are line-feeds only.
Windows uses carriage-return / line-feed characters
instead. This means that some applications will
not view logs well. For example, windows notepad
will show logs as one long line.
To view logs in Windows, you can use
Windows Wordpad, or you can download an app like GEDIT.
ESS Logs: The
logs that are most relevant to ESS start with ESS in
their name. Specifically:
ess-admin.log - Log of command captures from the ESS adminitration text application.
ess-mount-0.log - Log of the last array mount operation.
