BonFire Data Deduplication
All BonFire systems
contain modified LZ4 compression, which you can read about
here,
Compression can be used either to increase free space,
or to increase the apparent, the addressable quantity of
storage space.

There is a second way that
apparent space can be created and stored in a storage
system. This is by storing only the first copy of a data
sector as physical data while referencing each additional
block reference containing the same data patern to the first
block. In many environments this does not increase
free space very much. But it does reduce space
requirements dramatically when one is storing many
copies of identical data, as would be the case in categories
such as program files, as well as environments such as
virtual systems and Windows VDI instances.
If you fall into this
nitch case then deduplication can be extremely useful, and
can profoundly reduce costs. But in other cases you
will normally do better with a standard BonFire offering,
together with a possible application of compression.
